New research has found that the language skills of children at age 5 are a strong indicator of how they will be doing at the end of primary school.
“Gareth Jenkins, from Save the Children, says the research demonstrates for the first time the most crucial determinant of success in Sats tests is how well children can communicate when they start school.”
The charity wishes the findings to prompt debate about the importance of good quality nursery provision.
