Speech Sound Assessment

Speech Sound Assessment

Do you also want a written report?

In depth verbal feedback is always given following any assessment. In addition to this, detailed written reports are available too as an optional extra (£75). Lots of families opt for a report with an initial assessment but we are also happy to write them after working with your child for a few therapy sessions.

Not all families require a report and therefore we don’t insist on them. Some families are keen to just get therapy started.

Other families find a report really useful as it will outline our findings, explain them and make suggestions and recommendations.

A report can be useful if you want to share feedback with your child’s Educational Setting (School or Nursery) or if you want to use our report to further support an onward referral (e.g. to Audiology, Occupational Therapy or Community Paediatrics etc).

Lots of our families find our reports useful as evidence for applying for further support e.g. Educational Health Care Plan applications, Disability Living Allowance applications etc.

  • £ 150.00 (per session)

Sometimes it is evident that your child solely has difficulties with their speech sound production and no other areas of language or communication.  If this is the case then a slightly shorter assessment procedure can take place whereby only the child’s speech sound production is checked.  The 50 minute session will purely look at speech sounds.  This product CANNOT be booked if you have any concerns about the child’s understanding of language, their expressive language, their vocabulary, fluency or any aspect of their social communication.

Verbal feedback will always be given. A full written report is an optional extra (£75) however, sometimes a full written report is not necessary, it depends really on the purpose of the assessment. If it’s just for you as a parent or carer to see how you can support your child at home, then verbal feedback and demonstrating ideas may be enough. If you are keen for your child’s pre-school or school to support too, then they may find a full written report useful with some suggested targets or advice and recommendations. Following an assessment, next step advice will be given including any onward referrals that might be needed (e.g. hearing to be checked). It may be important for us to liaise with pre-school or school staff too at this stage.

Activities will always be disguised in a fun game and your child will receive a prize at the end of every session!

Our assessment and therapy sessions mostly take place in one of our clinics. However, if you wish to book a home visit or a visit in your child’s nursery or school then please ring, email or fill out the enquiry form and we can let you know precise costings once we know the location etc.

Occasionally parents mistakenly book a speech sound assessment with us, but when we meet the child it becomes evident that a Full Speech, Language & Communication assessment is required instead. These are at a higher rate of £240 as opposed to £150. If this is the case, we will discuss this with you as there might need to be an additional charge.
