A full assessment involves all areas of the child’s speech, language and communication being assessed as applicable. It can take up to 1 hour 30 minutes. Verbal feedback will always be given.

A full written report is an optional extra (£75). Sometimes a full written report is not necessary, it depends really on the purpose of the assessment. If an assessment is just for you as a parent or carer to see how you can support your child’s speech and language development more at home, then verbal feedback and demonstrating ideas may be enough.

If you are keen for your child’s pre-school or school to support too then they may find a full written report useful with some suggested targets or advice and recommendations. Following an assessment, next step advice will be given including any onward referrals that might be needed (e.g. hearing to be checked). It may be important for us to liaise with pre-school or school staff too at this stage.

Our therapists prefer to do their own assessments, even if the child has had an assessment recently by another Speech Therapist. It is an opportunity for us to really get to know your child and see how they find the tasks. We learn a lot about the child’s speech and language needs this way as well as their personality, so we are able to best plan future therapy sessions.

If you are certain that your child does NOT require a full assessment as their only difficulty is perhaps just a few tricky speech sounds, then again, speak to us directly before booking as we may be able to suggest an alternative option to save money.

Activities will always be disguised in a fun game and your child will receive a prize at the end of every session!
